After leaving the dragon goods shop, we went to the government building immediately.

I ran into Rose in the lobby, and I explained to her what happened, showing her my guild card.

“You’re right – It says Level 2 now,” said Rose.

“Is it normal for a guild level to go up this quickly?” I asked her.

“No, I can’t say that it is. You registered as a one-person guild with two dragons in your guild, so I would expect it to take at least a month for your guild level to go up like that,” she said.

“Right?” I asked.

What Rose was saying matched up with what Rui had told me, earlier.

Rui had been trying to insult me, but what he was saying had some truth behind it, apparently.

“Is this some kind of mistake?” I asked.

“Hold on,” said Rose. She took my card and stepped into the back of her office.

I waited for her there, and she came back out, ten minutes later.

“Sorry for making you wait,” said Rose.

“No problem. So…?”

“I looked into it, but it doesn’t seem like it’s an error of any kind. There’s no fraud involved, either,” said Rose.

“There are cases of fraud with this sort of thing?” I asked.

“Of course – like making a guild, borrowing dragons from all around town and affiliating them with the guild for just enough time to raise the guild level, and then releasing the dragons,” said Rose.

“People really do things like that, huh?” I asked.

“There are people in every facet of life trying to find loopholes,” she said.

“Ah, yeah.”

That’s just how it goes, I guess.

“So, yeah. “Dragons First” has officially gone up a level. Congratulations,” said Rose.

“Oh. Thank you very much,” I said, hurriedly bowing my head.

Rose gave me my guild card, and I stared at where it said we’d gone up to level 2.

“Um, so what’s changed, now that we’re at level 2?” I asked.

“Well, the biggest difference is this,” said Rose, handing me a sheet of paper.

“The biggest difference is… paper?” I asked.

“It’s not just paper. Try putting your guild card on top of it,” she said.

“All right… Huh?!”

I laid the guild card onto the sheet of paper as directed. All of a sudden, the paper, which had been blank up until that moment, turned into some kind of diagram. It wasn’t just any old diagram, either.

“This is… a map of Boisrussel, isn’t it?” I asked.

“Yep,” said Rose.

“What’s this blip that’s lit up?” I asked.

“That’s where your registered dragon is,” I said.

“Ah, okay. That’s right – Louise is waiting outside for me.” The locations lined up. Rose’s explanation made sense.

The map was centered on the government building, just a little ways away from the heart of the city.

Just beside the government building was a bright dot, and this was where Louise was.

She hadn’t moved since I had entered the building. She was probably taking a nap outside.

“I don’t see the other one, though,” said Rose.

“That’s because Colette is off in the Milleaf Mountains, working,” I said.

“On its own?” asked Rose.

“Yeah.”

“You’re letting your dragon roam about on its own?”

“Yes.”

“That’s surprising… You’ve got a lot of tricks up your sleeve, don’t you?”

“Yeah, well,” I said.

It was, of course, because I could communicate with dragons. Rose didn’t press me with any more questions, though, so I didn’t feel the need to explain. [Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]

“Well, then, why don’t you try zooming the map out?” said Rose.

“Zoom it out?”

“That’s right – just run your fingers on it, like you’re pinching it.”

“All right,” I said, and with my thumb and index finger extended, I slid my fingers atop the paper, making a pinching motion. The map changed, and grew more detailed. Everything shrunk down, and the map zoomed out.

The map had originally only shown the area around the government building, but now, I could see all of Boisrussel. Which meant…

I pinched the map, yet again. Boisrussel itself shrunk down, and I could see the surrounding areas, including the Milleaf Mountains. Within those mountains, I saw another blip.

“Oh, wow – there’s Colette,” I said.

“I should be the one saying ‘Oh, wow,’” said Rose, “You really are letting it work on its own, huh?”

“Well, yeah.”

“How’d you train it to do that?”

“I just had a straightforward conversation with her and we came to an agreement,” I said.

“Ah, okay. Let’s just leave it at that, then.”

Rose probably thought I was joking and laughed it off.

I was used to this reaction, by now, and so I didn’t pay it much mind.

“So, that’s how it is. The more your guild level goes up, the more convenient things will come your way,” said Rose.

“I see…”

I got a bit excited at the thought of what would come at Level 3. I couldn’t wait to see.

☆

That night, long after the sun had gone down, Colette returned home.

I had been expecting Colette, since I could see her coming back on the map. As she got to the house, I went outside to greet her.

“Welcome back, Colette,” I said.

“Huh?”

Colette was surprised to see me waiting for her, outside.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“Were you waiting for me?” she asked.

“Yeah. I got you those ribbons we talked about, so I wanted to give them to you as soon as I could,” I said, offering her the bag in my hand.

Inside the bag was the ribbon I had bought for Colette as a present at the dragon goods shop.

“Ribbons!” said Colette.

“How’s this one? It’s pink and cute. This other one’s got frills,” I said.

“Ah!”

“Which one do you like?” I asked.

“Both of them!” said Colette.

“All right. Well, try the pink one on, first, then,” I said, fastening the pink ribbon onto her head.

A dragon wearing a ribbon… I mean, I thought it would look weird before putting it on her, but once I saw her with it on, it didn’t look out of place, at all. In fact, it looked pretty good on her.

“Looks good,” I said.

“R-really?”

“Yeah, you look cute.”

“Ah, uh, w-whatever! I’ve always been cute,” said Colette.

“True,” I said, laughing a little. I found it quite funny that Colette looked quite happy, but was trying to act like she wasn’t.

“H-hey,” she said.

“Hm?”

“…Thank you,” said Colette, turning her face away from me and looking off in a different direction.

As usual, Colette couldn’t bear to show her emotions outright. It was adorable.

Then, it happened. My inside pocket began to glow.

I pulled out the guild card, and it still said Level 2, but the words “Level 2” were gleaming, and blinking.

“…Is this…”

This sparked a new theory within me.

Both of times that the card had started to glow were times when my dragons were happy. Could it be that the guild experience points were racked up whenever the dragons felt joy?[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
